Say Hello: Nicole Kearney of Sip & Share Winery

What inspired you to start your business?

Typically being the only Melanated person in the room when attending wine tasting, I researched and found there are about 100 Melanated vintners in the US, and a few abroad. The wine industry doesn't market to our communities. However, we, especially Melanated Women are a large segment of wine drinkers. These lead to me manifesting Sip & Share Winery, whose delicious, artisanal, small batch, vegan wine uplifts and fosters an inclusive community of wine lovers.

What do you love about being a Black Woman Business Owner?

Being able to interact with other Melanated people to share with them we are in the wine business.

What are the biggest obstacles you see for Black Women Business Owners?

Creating solid foundation for our businesses. Not being willing to invest our own money before seeking outside funding. Having access to resources to prepare to obtain pre-seed, seed and Series A capital. Being overlooked and undervalued.

How do you define success?

My children and family thriving, finding their path and living in abundance by walking in their gifts. Continued growth of myself. Building Sip & Share Winery into a sustainable, profitable company.

How do you start your day?

With Gratitude to the Creator for the day! Some days that is followed by meditation and getting 'on the mat' (yoga). Then responding to folks communicating with me.

If you had reset button to start all over, what would you do differently? Why?

Nothing. I AM exactly where I should be. All my experiences, have lead me today.

What is a word that describes you?

Grateful

What's the best advice you've ever received?

"It takes two people to argue, so walk away." Virginia Kearney aka my Queen Mama.

How has, if in anyway, Buy from a Black Woman help you with your business journey?

Buy from a Black Woman provided me with seed capital with the grant of $500 that allowed Sip & Share Winery to attend an event where we showcased our wines. We were able to reach a new customer base. It also showed us, we were ready to level up. The platform has introduced me to many sisterpreneurs across the country and provides a community to learn, support and patronage with one another. Thank you for the platform!
